VIPER - Economical Energy is harnessing underground gravity energy storage solutions (UGES) in novel ways (2:18)

An energy storage technology represents a reinvention of pumped hydro, using a similar approach to UGES, VIPER switches out the water used by pumped hydro with sand or metal pellets. VIPER also removes pumped hydro’s requirements for mountains and construction in ecologically diverse areas, by using deep holes in the ground like those provided by underground mines.
